A climate/how to preserve our planet talkback with members of the library following the film

The Lorax film is the 2012 animated musical fantasy adaptation of the children’s book written by Dr. Seuss and published in 1971. It chronicles the plight of the environment and the Lorax, the main character, who “speaks for the trees” and confronts the Onceler, a business magnate who causes environmental destruction. It’s the story of greed causing human destruction of the natural environment that encourages activism and involvement in making the situation better: a quote from the Lorax states, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not”.

It’s not often that children’s books or films are cited in federal court opinions. The fact that Dr.Seuss’ The Lorax has been cited by Court of Appeals and Supreme Court Justices is a testament to the impact this story has had on so many people over the years.
