Bits and Pieces
Mixed-Media Constructions by artist Shannon Castle
and a “Pin-Up” Community Installation
Shannon Castle honors the creative process in various aspects of her daily life…raising young children, building a home, growing a garden, and teaching art. She is finding her way back to the creative process of making art in her home studio. Shannon has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Ceramics, a K-12 Art Teacher Licensure, and a Master of Arts degree with a focus on Community Art. She has teaching experience at all levels and has sold her artwork for over ten years.
Shannon makes art to process experiences, to explore relationships, to find peace, and to give thanks. She makes art as a visual prayer. Her current studio work is a series of mixed media constructions, called little sketches. These little sketches are made on plywood with paint, clay, fiber, found objects, text, and her own recycled drawings, paintings, and prints. These elements are stitched, nailed, and otherwise collaged together to form meaningful images and symbols. The small format of the little sketches reflects the intimacy of the themes of loss, protection, balance, and love that are pieces of her personal narrative. The size also allows Shannon to make art in-between the threads of her daily routine.
The HunterGatherer Gallery is happy to provide the space for another “Pin-Up” Show where unframed works on paper and fabric are “pinned” to the gallery walls. In keeping with the theme of “little sketches” the size limitation is 8 1/2 X 11. This is an all-ages installation, and anyone is welcome to come by the gallery with work to display. As well, materials will be provided at the gallery for on-site inspiration! All abilities welcome, and written word is encouraged as well as drawing, painting, sewing and collage works. Doodlers Welcome.
