Wild & Scenic Film Festival @ Paradise Theatre / Paonia Town Hall
Nov 16 @ 2:00 pm – 9:30 pm

wssc-film-fest-posterThis year’s best environmental films are coming to a big screen near you. For the fifth year in a row, the Western Slope Conservation Center is hosting the Wild & Scenic Film Festival on November 16 at the Paradise Theater in Paonia. Find your inspiration with twenty short films showcasing nature’s wonders, the problems facing our planet, and the work communities like ours are doing to protect the environment.

The film lineup includes “Wild Things,” documenting the role of native carnivores in healthy ecosystems; an attempt to reconnect the animal with the meal in “Murder Mouth;” how we might learn from the Earth’s engineers in “Second Nature: The Biomimicry Evolution;” and seven other award-winning shorts exploring the environmental issues you care about.

In addition to this action-packed evening program beginning at 7:30pm, the Conservation Center is again hosting a 2 pm Wild & Scenic Family Matinee, with an hour of short films chosen with families in mind. Explore the world and inspire wonder with the next generation of environmental stewards, and then head over to the second Annual North Fork Winter Gear Swap, from 3 to 5 pm, at Paonia Town Hall.

This is a sell-out event, so save your seat now. Evening program tickets are $10 for Conservation Center members and $15 for non-members. As a festival special, the Conservation Center is offering new memberships for $25, which includes a free ticket to the evening screening! Family matinee prices are $5 for children, and $8 for adults. Have some gently used gear you would like to sell? Gear swap vendor tables are available for a paltry three dollars; admission is free.

Purchase tickets at the Conservation Center office, at 204 Poplar Avenue in Paonia. More information about the festivities can on the Conservation Center’s website or by calling Brian at (970) 527-5307 ext 206.

Join us on November 16 for the best environmental films of the year, along with giveaways, silent auction, gear swap, family matinee, and general festivities in honor of our Earth. This event will benefit the Western Slope Conservation Center, which is a grassroots non-profit located in western Colorado working to protect and enhance our lands, air, water and wildlife. This festival is also supported by Dragonfly Anglers, Sunlight Mountain Resort, REI, Powderhorn Mountain Resort, Aspen Ski Company, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, the Paradise Theater, and South Yuba River Citizens League.

What: A FREE screening of Gasland Part II: In this explosive follow-up to his Oscar®-nominated film GASLAND, filmmaker Josh Fox uses his trademark dark humor to take a deeper, broader look at the dangers of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, the controversial method of extracting natural gas and oil, now occurring on a global scale.

Why: A better informed citizenry, to benefit the efforts of Citizens for a Healthy Community & Fractivist.
